How To Wear A Soccer Jersey Fashionably

Soccer jerseys aren’t exclusive to the players. As a soccer fan, you might want to wear your favorite team’s jersey too.

However, you have the freedom to wear the jersey however you wish, unlike the soccer players who have limited options due to the laws of the game.

While the idea of having a lot of options to pick from is great in general, it can be overwhelming too. This is especially true when deciding what to wear with the jersey and how to look good while wearing it.

For that reason, I have decided to write a quick list of things that can help you wear your soccer jerseys fashionably.

1- Make sure that you pick a good looking jersey

This is a no brainer, but I thought I should still start with it before moving on to the more interesting stuff.

If you have bought your jersey already, then that’s fine, but if you haven’t, just make sure that you don’t buy a jersey that looks terrible.

Soccer jerseys look awesome in general, but there are some jerseys that are completely messed up.

Even if you are limiting yourself to your favorite team’s jerseys only, remember that most of the elite soccer clubs change the look of their jerseys every single year.

So, if this year’s jersey is ugly, you can always wait till the next year’s jersey or you can just buy one of the older designs if they look great.

A soccer club can’t just mess up every single year when it comes to the design of their jersey, so you should have plenty of options to pick from in general.

Now that you’ve picked a good looking jersey, let’s move on to the next thing.

2- Pick the right colors for your full outfit

If you hate mixing and matching colors when it comes to your outfit, then go ahead and wear your regular blue jeans with your jersey.

Blue jeans look great with many soccer jersey colors. However, if you are ready to put in a little bit of extra effort, then here are some details that can help you make your choice when it comes to colors:

Before we move on, if you are interested, you can click here to check an article that lists 7 famous jersey colors and some of the soccer clubs that wear them.

Note that we’ll be discussing what you can wear with your jerseys later on in this article, but first, let’s focus on the colors of your whole outfit.

There is a good chance that you have already heard about the “colors wheel”, or in other words, the wheel that contains the colors of the rainbow.

This is how it looks like:

This spectrum is often used when dealing with color theory. It is used by designers to create great looking outfits.

You can make use of it too, and that’s what we’re gonna discuss next.

However, I don’t want to go into too much detail when it comes to all the color theory stuff, so I’ll just leave this link here in case you want to learn more about it.

But what concerns us is right now is the following:

  • If you want to keep it simple, you can go for colors that are close to each other in the above spectrum. Using these colors together usually looks stylish and good.
  • If you want to be bold and try a different thing, then you can go for colors that are opposite to each other on the spectrum.

For example, if your jersey is yellow, then you can try wearing light green or light orange with it since these 2 colors are the ones that are next to yellow on the spectrum.

These colors will look calm together since they are neighboring colors.

However, you can also go for blue with the yellow jersey since blue is on the opposite side of the spectrum. Blue and yellow can work well together, and they can create some contrast in your look.

Note that these are just quick color suggestions for you if you’re not sure what to pick, but if you are already confident with the colors that you usually wear, then that’s great news.

3- Pick the right size for your jersey

Soccer players use jerseys that are slim-fit and some of them use skin-fit jerseys, but you don’t have to do that yourself for 2 reasons:

  • You might have a different body type than the soccer players (remember, it’s their job to always remain in shape)
  • You don’t have to restrict yourself with a tight jersey since you’re not even going to play

So maybe go for a relaxed jersey size. In other words, go for the regular size that you generally use for your t-shirts and other wearables.

Also keep in mind that you might want to wear some clothing under your jersey too, so make sure that your jersey isn’t too tight or else you might not be able to wear anything under it.

However, try not to go too far and get an extremely baggy jersey unless you believe that you can make it look great on you.

For example if you are a female and you want to get a jersey that is baggy enough to be able to tie a side knot, then absolutely go for it, but other than that, go for a regular fit jersey unless you absolutely know what you’re doing.

What to wear with your soccer jersey?

As a fan standing in the stadium (or anywhere else), you usually don’t want to wear the shorts that the soccer players wear during their games. Instead, you can go for one of the following options:

  • Regular jeans
  • Sweat pants
  • Track pants
  • Cargo pants
  • Jeans shorts
  • Casual shorts

This is just a small and quick list for you, but wearing any of these with the jersey can look fashionable.

Which one you should pick depends on your preference, but make sure to stay away from any formal clothing unless absolutely necessary.

You can also wear jackets on top of your jersey while keeping your jacket open to keep your jersey visible.

Accessories can be a great addition too. A large necklace, a bracelet, and other accessories can look great with your jersey.

And finally, make sure that you avoid formal footwear. Just go for a casual look when it comes to footwear and you should be good.

What to do with the jersey itself?

Before I end this article, here is a small list of things that you can do with the jersey itself to make things a little bit more interesting:

  • Tuck in your jersey. Place the bottom of your jersey under whatever you’re wearing on your lower body if you don’t want to hide your lower body with it.
  • Tie a side knot
  • Don’t wear your jersey at all, instead, tie it around your waist while wearing something else. You can also wear the jersey, but tie your team’s flag around your waist instead.

CONCLUSION

There are countless options when it comes to how to wear your jersey fashionably to a soccer match or to the streets.

Hopefully, you now have an idea of how to look amazing at your upcoming soccer events.
